I am looking for a waltz to go with the Marino and Tenessee waltz's. We had a go at both last week at our slow set and it would be nice to make a set out of them with a third. Any suggestions?
The Missouri Waltz is a lovely old tune. As a point of interest what style of waltz are you playing...Slow Waltz or Old Time Waltz (Irish or Scottish style). Sometimes a tune which is suitable for a slow waltz loses a little by being played too fast as in 'Old Time Waltz' tempo. On the other hand a tune like the Blue Danube would make a good old time waltz (Viennese Waltz) but you'd murder it by playing it as a slow waltz.
~ though I love my waltzes like my slow airs, one at a time, unless it's for a very long set dance, such as a Sicilian formation, circle mixer, waltz longways ~ and with a large crowd...
Also to be consider is the length of these waltzes, which is not consistent, 64 bars and 32 bars...
tom bhetties. I also know some good french ones but my abcs are crap to send them on here and you'd need to come down to s london to wheedle me out of retirement.
Thanks for all the replies. The two tunes came up at the end of our slow set last week so I sent the group out the sheet music and ABc's. It struck me afterward that a tune to link them could make a nice set . I'll check out the suggestions.
Try not to mix waltzes with the mazurka family, which includes varsoviennes. That isn't quite as bad as some take things ~ into reels and other time signatures than 3/4... As said earlier too, it's generally a better idea to mix 32 bar waltzes with the same count, as too with 64 bar waltzes, in my opinion... I get fed up with the same damned Boom-Chuck-Chuck interpretation thrown over everything that's in 3/4 time...

Re: A waltz to go with the Marino and Tennessee
You could try the Warksburn Waltz, a nice one from Northumberland with some coincidental similarities in structure to the Marino.

Waltzing Over The Water or possibly Father Halpin's Topcoat (aka Varsovianna)?

The Down Home Waltz has a nice swingy tempo after the drama of the Tennessee. Also The Kentucky waltz with a change of key is nice.
