Yes, tunes are what you play, and songs are what you sing. I am assuming you mean a tune. I don't know the easiest one, but I could give you a list a very easy ones if you would like.
The first tune my teacher had me learn was Dawning of the Day and the next tune was the Kerry Polka - if that helps you. I play fiddle. Well wait - I guess the VERY VERY first tune was Twinkle Twinkle. But then it's not Irish and you asked for an Irish tune.
I have it on good authority that the title is actually Welsh, a song commemorating the first funicular cable up Garth Hill near Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales.
Sources:
Morgan The Goat's "History Of The Bawds",
Abe "Skipper" Gwartney's "Now Yer Talking Welsh, But This Is San Diego",
and Rhyss Tredegar's "Oops! We're In Wales?".
I'm not being flippant, but if you have a tune in your head, both parts (assuming it is a 2 part tune), & can sing the tune (diddley syllables), & enjoy hearing it ... begin right there with your instrument.
There are a number of tunes which I might consider easy, but they would also be tunes I have heard hundreds of times. So, I'll hold off for now. Now, if you want tunes which I find wonderfully infectious, I'll do that. ;)
Berni Hiros, the shortest song I know is Hot Cross Buns. As for traditional Irish tunes, they are all about the same length and even the simplest will require practice and some study for a beginner. If you tell us what instrument you play and a bit of your experience, we can give you lots of good information.
sorry I meant "tune," not "song," you have me saying it now! For a good song, I like "Tell Me Ma!" (another one that sticks in your head, with an easy melody to learn on any instrument)

Re: easiest irish song to learn
Song would probably be Molly Malone.
Or do you mean tune, as in instrumental melody?

Re: easiest irish song to learn
It would also help to know what instrument(s) you play. A tune that's "easy" on fiddle may not necessarily be "easy" on whistle or flute, say.

WIND UP!
I think we've been stung by the ribald wit of North London's Rebi Shiron (What's the matter? Come on I'm joking already!)
Good one Rebbe.
