I'm looking at an old New Yorker 4-string tenor banjo at a festival. It seems set up ok , sounds decent. They want $110 for it. Anyone know much about this brand?
There are virtually no markings on this thing except for "The New Yorker" brand on the peghead and what seems to be a serial number on the back of the head at the top above the tuners. Nothing on the truss rod. In the process of getting pics to banjohangout.org

Gretsch? If you can, snap some pics and post them in the Collector's Corner at

There are a couple of guys there who have been collecting and researching the Gretsch banjos.

If it's a Gretsch, it should be marked as such on the underside next to the tuning pegs.
The price seems cheap - assuming that it's all OK.
Do you have one of those clip-on electonic tuners. It might be worth putting it in tune, then checking the tuning all the way up the frets.

Yeah, that pic does look very similar to what I see at the festival here at least the resonator portion anyway.
