This is a bit of a self serving post, but so be it!
Shannon Heaton is recording a new solo flute CD, called "the Blue Dress." It aims to be available in mid-Aug, and will feature Maeve Gilchrist on the Harp, Paddy League on Bodhran, and others.
I'm asking folks to take a peak at the kickstarter page we've set up to help fund the production of the album. there are various incentives (including the sheet music to all the tunes on the album) at various levels of support. We've got friends who have used kickstarter to great effect, we're hoping that it works for trad music too!
I just checked this out--kickstarter sounds like a great idea to help creative people fund their work. And Shannon's flute playing is simply wonderful. I just kicked in $25, and I'd encourage anyone interested in Irish flute to contribute to this project.
(Disclosure: I'm a friend of a friend of Matt and Shannon's, but really I just like their music. )
Well, people advertise instruments for sale, concerts, and festivals here all the time....
Besides, Shannon has done more than her share of freely giving the music--starting the Small Circle Tune Learning Session in Colorado and more recently offering an online tune-of-the-month: http://tuneofthemonth.posterous.com/
Matt and Shannon are the folks that turned on to ITM (along with Rod), when they visited a grad class, taught by a friend (aforementioned Rod) in Wyoming!
Ten days left and only about $1,400 to go to kickstart a worthy dream (and receive what promises to be a terrific cd in the bargain).
If you haven't yet, go give a listen to Shannon and Matt's music at their web site (http://www.mattandshannonheaton.com/) and then talk yourself into skipping those morning latte's for a week so you can support such a cool project (and nice person).
Email all your trad music friends and encourage them to pony up, too.
Hi all,
just secured a CD copy myself.
I am a fan of both Shannon and Matt, and I am sure I won't be dissappointed. I also know Paddy League, he is fantastic as well.
Just in case it isn't clear from the posts above: you don't actually donate money for nothing, it is more like securing that CD's produced will be sold and the artist is not ending up with debts and a pile of polycarbonate.
Somehow it makes me sad that people as talented and hard working as Matt and Shannon don't have record companies offering them really big bucks to please please produce them.
Greetings from Thony
Just wanted to thank ALL of you for your kind support. It was really a thrill to see all the kind words--and totally exciting that the project is funded!
Just so you know, it sounds great. (which I can say because I don't play on most of it!) we've finished the tracking, and it's currently being mixed/mastered. Release date is Aug 17; if you pledged, you'll get it as soon as we get them back from the plant.

Aw, thanks Will! We really appreciate it.
Shannon just pointed out that this post might violate some terms of use for thesession.org---if anyone's offended, let me know & I'll make it go away.

Re: New Flute CD/Kickstarter
Backed.

Kickstarter is one of the best things on the web today, in my opinion.
Matt and Shannon's Tune of the Month is a close second, though.

Jeremy beat me to the punch - home stretch folks ... scraping up $200 should be easy enough.

Re: New Flute CD/Kickstarter
Looks like the project is now fully funded ... $3885 has been pledged (goal was $3850) - congratulations Shannon!
Hope to hear from others using Kickstarter with similar aims - thrilled to be able to support such a worthy cause.
