Re: Larry Murphy and the Chamber of Secrets - Monkeying around with Expenses in Monkstown
All very well, but there are rumours the man is made of teflon.
Over here in the UK a man whose major crime was to be discrete about his domestic arrangements ( that is, apart from being a LibDem who went into coalition with the Tories ) because he was gay and didn't want his parents to find out ( tell me his mother didn't know already ) is now out of the cabinet.
Why don't they just say "Here's a fixed sum, you spend it how you like." ? Would save so much trouble.

If the overnight allowance is fixed, or routinely expected to be claimed for a bed-night at the plusher end, surely Mr. Murphy is just being canny.
But if Comhaltas competitions start to be won, and YouTube clips dominated, by grinning families playing Dan O'Donnell numbers on shakey eggs and melodicas because they've slipped him E1000 in a brown envelope, then we really *will* know there's trouble down t'Comhaltas mill.
Re: Larry Murphy and the Chamber of Secrets - Monkeying around with Expenses in Monkstown
From a statement by Labhras:
"Fianna Fail Senator Labhras O Murchu said last night he stays in communal accommodation owned by Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann while attending the Seanad.
"I live in Cashel. Some nights I stay in Comhaltas and I pay for it. We have 26 accommodation units there. I paid €5,000 last year for the nights I stayed there," he said. "I am absolutely meticulous and scrupulous. There is absolutely no basis for the story," he said. "
As far as I am aware Labhras and Una dont share the "communal" accommodation in Belgrave Square. I believe he has a private luxury apartment there for his sole use. Wonder is he claiming expenses from Comhaltas also?
Re: Larry Murphy and the Chamber of Secrets - Monkeying around with Expenses in Monkstown
According to my paper Labhrás pays €50 per night to stay in Monkstown HQ, but claims €126 from the Dáil. He claims he paid €5000 last year which means he stayed in Monkstown 100 nights. Assuming he claims €126 back from the Dáil (100 nights X €126) that works out at €12,600......plus his salary as a Senator of €70,000 pa. I guess I'll just have to practice harder.............!
Re: Larry Murphy and the Chamber of Secrets - Monkeying around with Expenses in Monkstown
If Lib Dem money-man wanted to keep his relationship clandestine, perhaps he should have not-ripped off the tax-payer for 40-grand.
And remember this is the same militarist, federalist, anti-democratic, neo-liberal (and really totally morally corrupt) party who promised a referendum on the European Constitution and then imposed on its MPs an enforced abstention on parliamentary vote on a referendum on the (basically identical) Lisbon Constitutional Treaty. Goodbye Democratic rule, hello the end of democratic rule! He’s just like the other supporters of the Lisbon constitution such as Ireland’s dim-witted Führer B.I.F.F.O, and Mary (Tighten your Belt) Harney, Bertie (Bribey) Ahern, Tony (Bloodbath) Blair, Gordon (war-crimes) Brown, Nicolas (3rd-world Arms-Trade) Sarkozy, Silvio (the Mafia gives me money & yet I avoid prison) Berlusconi, Angela (the collapse of capitalism is our chance to get an undemocratic federal militarist state) Merkel, among other similar vermin. This rouges’ gallery makes the extremely corrupt musical illiterate who’s just in it for the money look like Mahatma Gandhi. (though, come to think of it, Larry also supported the Lisbon Constitution, European militarization, funding of European arms-manufacturers, and the end of democratic rule in Ireland – Where’s a gallows when you need one?)
