Newly homemade, 'composed' tunes

Newly homemade, 'composed' tunes

I have done a tune, intentionally in irisk mood. But I'm a little shy about submitting it. I don't know if it is OK to 1) submit something you have done yourself, and then maybe 2) ask about some feedback using thesession as a test area for your own crasy ideas.
What is the general attitude towards this out there?
I think I'll do it anyway!
Its called Blackbird reel. I don't hope this name interfers with a similar one.

Re: Newly homemade, 'composed' tunes

Leif, some of us are always interested in new tunes composed in a traditional form. There are already quite a few "original" tunes in the data base.

One way to play it safe is to email the abcs to another member here and ask them for feedback first. People occasionally send me tunes this way, and I'm sure other members wouldn't mind lending an ear.

Re: Newly homemade, 'composed' tunes

Leif, I also submitted an original tune into the archives. I said in the comments that I would be posting more and Jeremy asked me to balance it out with trad tunes, submitting more trad than original. I don't think there is anything wrong with submitting one or two original tunes. Will or Zina would know better than me, though. And you can always ask Jeremy. That's probably what I should have done.

BTW...

BTW -- if you ever want to send me your tunes, I would be happy to give you my humble opinion.

Re: Newly homemade, 'composed' tunes

I have a few snippets of my own rolling round the old memory banks -- they only surface when I' m solo practicing...more like exercises..*as you do* - maybe I'll dress them up and submit them sometime...but I'd have thought everyone does that as an aid to practicing other people's tunes, anyway....it's no big deal, I just go off on musical tangents - but deliberately attacking bits where i feel I'm weaker, then repeat, repeat, repeat, till I'm happy..... -er :~}

Re: Newly homemade, 'composed' tunes

Come to think of it, there have been very few threads on this site concerning composers. C'mon now, let's winkle out the shyest of members, but possibly the most valuable resource we possess, who not only keep the music alive but continually renew it, and get the bards to give us the odd opinion... no worries lads, I'll maintain my role as court jester here for maybe one or two more days...then...
