You can tune it to GDAE if you want although a lot of them come set up in CGDA tuning. I got an Ozark mini-tenor guitar a year or so ago that was set up like that. As long as you are careful with your string guages you can change the tuning.
I see you are in Ulster. I also saw the same tenor guitar as mine sitting in a music shop in Belfast. I couldn't tell you the name now but it did have a large-ish folk section so I am sure it would be well known.
What a shame that there's a company called "Marcus Music" in Belfast, apparently charging a lot for stuff, with the same name as one in South Wales which happens to make some of the best new concertinas you can get. (And accordions, bodhráns, psaltery thingies, various other folkie-type stuff, and all with brilliant service and good value.) Note: I have no connection to the shop. I just like it. And they're always good for a chin-wag. Not on topic, I suppose, but I wouldn't want any negativity to attach to them, as they are good people.
Mind you, I wonder if Marcus Music in Belfast actually *is* overcharging, or is this just being implied by the advertiser on Gumtree in order to sell something for round about its normal new price? The people in Belfast may well be good people, too.
Well as I said I didn't remember it costing "over £300". I bought it in Edinburgh and then saw it in Belfast only a month or so later. I think it was mabe more expensive in Belfast but only by about £10. I suspect that it is the Gumtree advert that is "inaccurate". The price from Eagle Music looks about right.
Well, after all, Marcus Music do bill themselves as being ~ "The largest Store with the Lowest Prices", so it seems unlikely that they'd add £100+ onto the RRP.
Just be aware that, if you are used to your banjo being the loudest thing in the session, your guitar will inevitably be much quieter and more mellow. That's a good thing though.
Marcus Music store has been around a loooong time. Originally in smithfield market, I remember it being at bottom of North St - where I bought my first guitar in 1979. I sill pop in to the the store whenever I am "home" and take a look round. Last time I was in there were still a few old hands there, and I bought another guitar.
Tenor guitars make a great addition to a session btw. Good quality of sound in accompaniment or melody (if they can be heard above the banjos, bodhrans, etc)
Jamie has only just finished it, so as it still needs to settle, travel across the Pond ... & fight its way through Customs, I'm not going to get my grubby little paws on it for a few weeks yet, but I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait.
This video will give you an idea of what the Fletcher Tenortone Tenor Guitar can do. I've had mine now for nearly 24 hours, so it's about time I did something useful with it!
