Re: Star Wars Day today

Perhaps we should try and think of some appropriate tune names to go with the george Lucas epic thus fulfilling the need for this thread to be about 'the' music and assuring the survival of this thread!

Re: Star Wars Day today

It won't survive as soon as Big J gets back from lunch. But a vain attempt would be the Sirius Reel... in what context, I haven't a clue.

Perhaps, yhaalhouse. Yet, you introduced the notion of tune names, so it's all your fault.

Re: Star Wars Day today

Your father's banjo. This is the weapon of a ITM Knight. Not as random or as clumsy as a guitar, but an elegant weapon for a more civilized age

Re: Star Wars Day today

I'm learning banjo. Elegant? I think not. Banjo is like the heavy blaster of ITM instruments. You could take out a bantha with that thing.

I always thought The Phantom Button sounded like something from a Star Wars movie. Some mysterious device to activate hyperdrives or something. ;-)

Re: Star Wars Day today

The Force in Irish music flows through everything - from the lowest padawan like me, to the most powerful O'Jedi Knights like Angelina Carrberry or Kevin Griffin, or Cathal Hayden.

But beware the dark side - it can lead to incessant noodling, pointless arrogance, session performances, and fake brogues.

Fake brogues? I thought we could wear what we liked?

Oh Lukey boy
The Force the Force is callin'
From dune to dune
all round the planet side

The Empire's come
they want your little droidy pal
to chop him up
for those Death Star plans inside

And so on...

See you at the cantina.

Wow, yhaalhouse. I wouldn't admit that on a public internet forum if I were you, man.

Re: Star Wars Day today

Someone should start a thread asking if there is any notation telling you how to drum along with Irish tunes.

After reading too many of his comments on this web site, I would definitely say Yhaalhouse is "Warped" whether or not he likes to watch Star Trek.

Re: Star Wars Day today

Of course, there is a branch of folk music specifically related to SF, known as filk music. Practitioners like to gather together at meets known as swiggles or some such strange expression.
Be prepared for lots of songs about boarding the mother ship for another galaxy.
I think there's a tune about that somewhere on this site ?

# Posted on May 6th 2010 by Guernsey Pete

Re: Star Wars Day today

I am so sorry to hear that you have been exposed to filk music, Guernsey Pete. Have you had enough time to recover from the experience? Did you have to spend any time in a psychiatric ward as part of your recovery?

# Posted on May 6th 2010 by fauxcelt

Re: Star Wars Day today

Kirk to nurse: Take this man to sick bay at once. We just might be in time to save him.
Spock: Captain, it appears that he has been exposed to deadly strain of filk music.
Kirk: Is there any thing we can do, Spock?
Spock: According to my calculations Captain, filk music is often fatal to those who are exposed to it. If however, his exposure was slight, he might escape with only slight brain damage. Only time will tell.
Kirk to Bones: What are his chances Bones?
Bones: Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a traddie!
Kirk: But this was filk music!
Bones: Dammit Jim, I'm a trekkie, not a traddie!

Re: Star Wars Day today

Thank you Fiddlerdan, that was funny. Have you been exposed to the filk music virus also?
Besides filk music, I am also a recovering Trekkie. I no longer need to attend meetings of Trekkies Anonymous for de-programming because my recovery has advanced far enough so I don't need to attend these meetings any longer.

Re: Star Wars Day today

AlBrown, I didn't think I was including Too Much Information by confessing some of the sins of my wild and misspent youth. I wasn't trying to offend you. I have grown up now and moved beyond such immature and childish things as filking and Star Trek. However, I still like to read science fiction when I am not pretending to be a musician.
