Re: In desperate need of a hornpipe!!!

It's difficult to recommend tunes to you if we don't know your skill level or what you need the tunes for...............

If you don't mind letting go of the shallow end. I'm afraid I don't know the name, though.

Re: In desperate need of a hornpipe!!!

Johnstone's Hornpipe aka Johnstone's Fancy is a nice four part hornpipe that is cool in my book.

Bobby Casey's version of Poll Ha'penny: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/7612

I believe "If There Were No Women" is a barndance, not a hornpipe.

Re: In desperate need of a hornpipe!!!

Hi: I love hornpipes and there are many great ones at all skill levels. As mentioned earlier, the Boys of the Bluehill is a standard everyone knows and is not difficult. It is very often played with The Harvest Home which is trickier.

The Home Ruler is also easy to play, but a real nice tune. I Think it goes well with the Redesdale (both are on this site) and the modulation from D to G is a nice touch.

Finally there is The Rights of Man. More of a challenge, but a pretty piece of music and fun to play.

Hope this helps.

Re: In desperate need of a hornpipe!!!

Ceili17,

A real cracker is Early Dark by Colin Dewar; it knits it beautifully with Harvest Home and the Trumpet Hornpipe. Also, since not many folk are using it at the moment, it adds novelty, too.

Have fun :-)
