'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

ok, so many people appear to know a tune entitled
Christmas Eve yet I don't and since I will now actually
get a chance to play my flute (i have been working flat out at
my teaching course) I thought it'd be nice to play something
Christmasy. Can someone kind please post the tune??!!
Also just want to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful
Christmas. I hope that on everyone's resolution list for the
new year is to make more time for music. Its top of mine.
Nicola :)

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

Well, I was hoping Will would post his setting, but he's ignoring me. *pout*

Shannon Heaton was back in town and Siucra was playing on Saturday. She says that in Chicago, they have an active prohibition against playing Christmas Eve on Christmas Eve. But last year when we were all in Ireland, they loved it and she played it about four times that night. She says it says something about the state of Chicago, but she's not sure what. :)

I do know it's a Tommy Coen tune. For some reason, even though I like the tune, it just won't stick in my head, I don't know why.

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

I love it when you pout, Zina.... grin.

Are we talking the jig or the reel by this name?

I'll post the reel, though I don't play it enough myself to have it stuck firmly in mind.

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

So Zina, is this close to the version you've heard before? Any variations courtesy of Shannon Heaton?

Pouting always gets results. Ask my kids, you know, the ones buried beneath that pile of toys....

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

Does that mean if I pout, you'll send me some of the Christmas cookies you slaved over today, Will? I LOOOOOVE Christmas cookies. Especially the kind that are gingerbready. Or Molasses cookies. Yum.

Obviously, I haven't had dinner yet. Heh.

Answered you on the comments of the tune, Will!

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

I made 6 dozen molasses chewies, 2 dozen dark chocolate fudge brownies, and 3 dozen glazed apple gems for the session last night. The molasses chewies go great with a pint of porter, and they stay soft and chewy for days (if they hang around that long).

Five golden rings!

I thought you were giving your own version of the 12 days O'Christmas. :-)

Ob Trad: i know 2 "Golden Ring" jigs. One of them is the obligatory example whenever someone starts talking about cranns. Thanks, Matt Molloy!

Yes, it's the Twelve Days of Feeding. Followed by the nine days of actually heeding my new year's resolution to trim the waistline, soon followed by the 50 weeks of same ol', same ol'.

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Whistles to all

Since i was mostly nice this year, i have "An Bhabog Sa Bhadog" safely tucked under the tree, waiting for the gift opening time.

Not to speak of the real baby in the tram, who at any given time is likely to be screaming her head off!

I'm also giving myself YAPW (yet another pennywhistle), this time a "Clare 2-piece":

By my calculations, in another 5 years i will completely run out of livable space in my house, as it fills up with cheap pennywhistles. All in all, i only have a couple that i actually play, both Clarkes.

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

*pout* *pout* *POUT* -- Molasses chewies! Does that mean they TRAVEL well, Will? hehehehehe.....

We were all sitting around one night and for fun decided to figure out what our deadly sin (as in, 7 Deadly Sins) is -- a fun kind of party game so long as nobody's defensive, and best played by older folk who've had more time to get to know their Dark Side. Mine is DEFINITELY Gluttony. *grin* (Pete's is Sloth. We are a dangerous pair.) I don't know why I don't weigh 300 pounds. By all rights, I should.

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

These molasses chewies would probably ship just fine (though moving through the mail slower than the proverbial molasses in January, or December at any rate). (*groan*) After a trial run to a few select tasters, I could make a fortune selling them to members of The Session....

Ohhhh they're sooooooooo goood!!!!!

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

I hate you, Will -- you tease, you! I'll pout from here 'til March if you'll send me a box. How's that for an offer? I'll even PAY for them to start your business of cookie making ("Mr. Fields") off right. *POUT* already, *POUT*!!!!

Heh. And what would your deadly sin be, Will? Pride? (In your cookie making skills, maybe?) *snicker*

Re: 'Christmas Eve' and Christmas Wishes to all

I won't advertise my sins this close to the 25th. The Big Man up North might be a Session regular for all we know (again, he works with ELVES!), and I'd be empty handed on Christmas morning. In fact, given my track record, he make it retroactive and I'd have to give back my loot from the last 42 years....

Think I'll go have a nice soft, molasses cookie and some cold milk.....

Tee hee
