Re: RTE videos

RTE Player now uses secured Flash streaming, so no media player is going to be any use to you. This product ...

... will do it after a fashion by capturing the video image as it plays on your screen. Not a great solution, really.

Re: RTE videos

It's gas isn't - RTE is a public service, providing useful information to the public etc. Yet, they manage to make the use of their service awkward and fiddly. Last time I looked, they insisted I install and use Realplayer. This I did and the damn thing kept trying to set itself as my default player. No matter how I tried to set defaults, that Realplayer kept intruding. I eventaully got rid of it and RTE playbacks.

Doubtless, something to do with copyright but I would hazard that copyright restrictions only apply to a small proportion of the total. Farce anyway, for from what I see now, virtually all their programming and a helluva lot more besides is available on the net, often long in advance of when RTE gets to show it.

Re: RTE videos

There's a useful little program called iShowU which captures video and audio off your computer screen (two versions, $30 and $60).

You just set up a window the same size as the video stream on your screen; the program then records what's playing and saves it as a Quicktime movie. You can even open the file in Audacity and save it as a separate audio file.

Re: RTE videos

Unfortunately I cannot get RTE's videos to stream into my computer in real time, they stop about every 10 seconds and buffer for 30 seconds, and external capture mechanisms record all of that too.

Re: RTE videos

Did you already tried "Download Helper"? It's a plugin for the firefox browser that allows you to download flash videos. Works great for youtube videos, didn't tried it yet with RTE videos...
