Also.... just in case you have friends or family members at CIAW who do not play music, there are arts programs, dance, and childrens' programs during the day too.
Here is a link Laura Travis was kind enough to create for the arts programs. No one will be bored at CIAW, even if they don't play an instrument: http://campus.digication.com/catskillsartcraft/Classes_Offered_During_Arts_Week

Greetings, Iris -
As per my bio, I live in the Great Irish Music Wasteland of Northern New Hampshire, USA. Not a session to be found under an hour away, and not a single innkeeper who would let you try and start one. No market, no point, I guess.
(Sigh)
I first heard about this CIAW gathering from Mary Lou and Charlie from Ossian USA. I believe they try to make it each summer, and highly praise the event the rest of the year.
The workshops sound brilliant, particularly for a piper like me who cannot get to a tional now and then, or find another piper nearby. Semi-private classes with the likes of Messers Koehler and Blackie sound like a good opportunity not to be missed. And any time spent in good company sharing the hokey old retro tunes I first learned (and no one plays anymore) would be cool. It might be a good place to cast the net.
I will confess that I am not much on mass gatherings and "record-breaking" open Woodstock-sized sessions, but I am told that smaller fires can break out away from the great conflagrations.
All this is to say, think I'll try for this one, purses allowing.

A really well documented account in photos and sound, expertly put together. Rarely has clicking on a link given so much pleasure.
Well done Mr. Raab!
