I am going to attend a summer school in July to learn irish guitar accompaniment with Seamie O'Dowd(Dervish). Has anybody been to any of his classes and/or know what tuning he uses. I have been experimenting between standard, drop D, DADGAD and EADGAE.(Paul De Grae) but prefer drop D.The people running the school say they will find out for me but if they don't get back does anyone know please? I mostly play solo tunes fingerstyle or flatpicking but would really like to improve on the back up for sessions. Thanks
Yes, Seamie uses dropped D tuning for his classes. He can indeed play several tunings comfortably. I have attended his classes and found them very good. He teaches a few tunes and then the backing to go along with the tunes. He adapts to suit the experience level of the class which can vary considerably.

He plays mostly in drop D but he's fit for anything.
