Hi everybody!
first, please excuse my poor english! Second, excuse me if this question is already somewhere here, and in this case tell me just where i can find it!
here is my problem: I lived few years in Rennes, Britany, where you can go every night in sessions (woaww!!!); i moved 2 years ago (almost 3), far from any town; so i don't have enough motivation to play alone (time missing too). But i really want to carry on playing (wooden flute)!! What could help me? OK, coming back on this site is already something great (it's been so long, i don't know why!)... Do you have, too, times you just don't have the motivation? Then, when you take your instrument, it sounds so bad you just want to leave it (when it's not burning it, throwing it by the window,... ), an so on. What makes you motivated again?...
Thanks a lot!

Where abouts are you living now ? Dont give your exact adress to strangers but there are sessions and members of this web site all over even in remote areas of france.
What motovates me is playing ,making music with others;
The Auvergne is full of good music that fits well on a flute. But you asked what motivates me ~ the music, the people, listening, dancing, laughter. It isn't about me, so the focus is on the music, and I try to meet it, to do justice to it, and I try, not always successfully, not to get in the way of that pleasure. What will always get in the way is too much self-criticism. Sometimes you just have to play and let things happen. Yes, you can always find things to improve on, to try ~ but if you centre your heart on the music instead of your brain on getting everything exactly right, then you'll go a lot further and enjoy it that much more. Learn to laugh at the screw ups and sour notes, and laugh with the music. Pursue the music, not the mechanics, and know that humour and patience is also a part of that tradition.
The Auvergne, when there I didn't look for Irish music, or Breton, but found some lovely people making music and dance and we joined them and had a wonderful time, one of the best ever was an annual potato festival ~ good food, good music, good dance, good company... You'll settle in, just be patient, and with yourself especially, not over critical.

Re: Help a lonely irish music player!!
C-F is twinned with Aberdeen so maybe you can persuade your local council to fund some exhcnage musician visits.
No point asking Aberdeen council, they're skint!
But they've sent a brass band and a choir in the past, so why not some trad musos?

Hello Cécile,
en surfant un peu sur le net :
http://www.laballadeirlandaise.com/nos_coups_de_coeur_039.htm
http://maree-haute.wifeo.com/auvergnats-et-celtes.php
j'ai mis "musique irlandaise en Auvergne", et il y plein d'autres sites... plutôt des groupes, mais en leur envoyant des mails, l sauront peut-être ou trouver des sessions, ou des gens avec qui jouer...
Hi Ceol ! always nice to read your posts...
