Just a short note to thank EVERYBODY who contributes to this bb/website. I've just been through two months of absolute horrible hell getting teams and solo costumes ready for the Western Region Oireachtas (going on even as we speak), and The Session had a huge impact on my keeping my sanity.
If you're easily embarassed, skip the rest, because I'm about to get touchy-feely on you.
Often the breaks I spent here and friends I've made here were what felt like the only bright spots in horribly long days (like, an hour or less of sleep long) of what felt like nothing but problems to solve, and you guys (although all unknowing) sometimes kept me from biting the heads off my poor students, friends, and husband simply by your senses of humor, caring about the music, and being willing to give out on whatever took your fancy. Including (sometimes most importantly in terms of significant impact on my wellbeing) our sillier moments. You all often reminded me that there's an entire world out there that has nothing to do with the things that were stressing me out and that life is just like that. It's good to know that you guys are out there on the other ends of those keyboards, living your lives and having your own priorities and dealing with your own problems, but can still find time to help others out, share jokes and laughter, and share a little sympathy -- as well as the music, of course.
Never doubt that there's value and a human level of contact to what we do here. I feel sorry for those musos who see this as not worth contributing to. They're really missing out. Thanks, Jeremy!
I find it much more interesting to read what's on my monitor....
:~)
Aw shucks, and we weren't even trying to be nice!
I'm probably just embarking on a busy (or busier) period right now. Today went from 9.30am-8.30pm. And this week's just starters. Merry Christmas to you too!! Hopefully I'll have captured my images by then, even if I haven't generated the data.
But things could be worse - there is probably a planet out there in some parallel universe of this great multiverse we live in, which is exactly identical to Planet Earth, but does not have....The Session! We should pray for those poor unfortunates who inhabit that world, and who play their version of Irish music...which, I am reliably informed, by someone who lived there for a while (so he said) that hornpipes and polkas, followed by slip jigs and double jigs, are the most frequently played tunes at sessions. Reels are rarely played....so maybe they do have something going, over there after all....
Zina, anybody who can write a bio like you has my att: straight away.
I have sort of belonged to a wrenching list for years ( I used to like building my vehicles from the ground up using salvage yards) but that list is really ready to haul out a cyberpistol and cyber pistolwhip anyone who gets caught up in heart, aesthetics and passion outside of skinning knuckles on reluctant nuts.
Eeeps! It's made, and it's been made since forever! I just haven't SENT it. *grin* Sorry, total loser girl. Haven't made the Peter Murphy CDs I promised, either. Sorry sorry sorry. Perhaps tomorrow. I slept all day today and only woke up at 10 pm because my father in law called. I think I'll eat an ice cream and go back to bed.
Peter Murphy--I totally forgot about him! I had an ex-boyfriend who modeled his whole look after him and his band after Bauhaus...totally forgot about all of that and now it comes flooding back in a wave of unsolicited memories...
Gee, Zina, I feel like I should be thanking you. You've always been so patient, answering all my questions. I can't tell you how much I apreciate all the help you have given me! Thanks!
No troubles. The thing about this stuff is that you can really only learn it from others -- it's not something you really can do well at sitting at home alone listening to recordings or never playing with others. And what you've learned is always from other people who are passing on what they've learned, and it is only right to pass what they've taught you to others in your own turn. Never fear, someone will learn things from you as well, Max, if you let them!
thanks, guys

Oh, and Peter -- I didn't write my bio! Will did. He writes the most hilarious faux personal ads ever.

Re: thanks, guys
You've been getting free therapy Zina? Maybe Jeremy should invoice you in future.
As a newcomer here, just like to say how ... comfortable this site is. Thanks.

Re: thanks, guys
I dunno that I'd call this place free therapy, exactly...isn't therapy supposed to help you overcome your psychosis instead of aiding and abetting?

Re: thanks, guys
Big hug, Zina.
Though I'm relatively new here on this platform, I think you're the Godmother of "the Session".

Heh. You may be new around here, Bart, but like Martin, you seem to have adjusted to the proper amount of, um, inventiveness needed to thrive here...

Re: thanks, guys
Inventiveness! Here's me baring my, erm, soul. And you think I'm making it up! ...
