Clever that. List what you have in your meta text on a post on a website that regularly come up at the top of google searches and it ups the rating of google searches for your own stuff. Very clever. Well done
Just be glad that we're all in a music where it's reasonable to suppose that the post was actually composed, posted, or even seen by the guy that it purports to be from. As long as that supposition is reasonable, I wouldn't complain about the band doing what it can to sell a few more records - if a band is small enough that you think the flute player is doing the marketing, then they're small enough that we can cut them some slack on that marketing!
You make Michael's point, again, Joe. Yes: by posting the meta text here, Kevin has reached more of "those that might be interested" than he might have otherwise--because the yella board tops google searches so well. As Michael said: clever.
For christ sake, I wasn't being sarcastic. I was saying well done, good idea. Joe, it's all in your head. What a horrible thing to be, for your default position to too asume the worst.
I thought he was just musing, thinking out loud so to speak, or speaking without thinking; which makes life sort of interesting on the yellow boards, if you like sticking your neck out far enough without falling three floors. Llig likes doing that by the look of it; being the only duck in the shooting gallery. You should be thanking him for the craic.
Looking forward to it. Lunasa albums are always a pleasure to listen to and a great source of nice tunes.
Why the hell would anybody be bothered by meta text at the bottom of the message? That's just to help people find it. The net would not be nearly as user friendly without it. Unless it makes sense to go to the trouble of recording an album and keeping it as secret as possible.
I like Lunasa. I didn't know they had a new CD out soon. I will definitely be buying it. Kevin did the right thing letting us all know about it on this site. I wish them all the best of luck with it.
It's pretty straight forward, it's a good idea. I've just built a website, my first. And I'm learning about meta text and how google ranks its searches. It's like anything in life that's useful (and plenty that's useless), I just like knowing how it works.
Other than the small writing in the initial box that is in that dark green shade I think that having the black background and white writing makes it very easy to read.
I don't know about Llig's motives, but the Session doesn't show up on the first page of any Google search I can come up with for Lunasa.
In fact, the Session's design breaks Google's indexing and PageRank. (Try looking at the Session with Javascript turned off sometime. Or try linking specifically to the comments page for a tune. Can't be done.) Chiff & Fipple, for example, ranks much more highly in Google for all things trad than The Session. Anyone who is trying to promote something using the Session is naive about how Google works.
In truth, Jeremy's site design is so idiosyncratic that I've often wondered if he isn't intentionally trying to make the site inaccessible to the uninitiated.
Does it not take a few days for the meta text things to work. Something to do with a google search being not a search of the t'internet, but a search of googles copy of it? I'm naive about this stuff, but learning.
And isn't Jeremy's site design so idiosyncratic just because he did yonks ago?
It will take a bit for thesession to appear in Google. I don't know if the meta tags will really make a difference as I imagine it will just be identified as normal text rather than anything special.
Thesession.org does have a very high Google rating though as you will find if you search for your username in Google or enter the name of a tune.

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
LOL, Michael holds no prisoners.
I've a hunch that by now, Kevin has the equivalent of a doctorate in marketing....
(Hello from the guy who failed to bring Anne Marie's torte down to Alamosa, Colorado....)

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
Erm, no one here was actually giving Mr. Crawford a hard time....
In this music, *every* band is "small enough." Even the alleged "Superbands" are shoestring operations compared to the music biz bands.

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
Yeah llig, the reason he put up an announcement that his band's made a new CD was so that his Google ratings would rise.
Nothing to do with raising the awareness of those that might be interested, of course.

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
Hmph. Is it just me, or is anyone else getting tired of seeing crass motives (mistakenly) so routinely assigned to the lligster?
Doing so says more about your own cynicism than it does about Michael's....

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
... for heaven's sake, man.
Lúnasa is an Irish trad band.
TheSession.org is where Irish trad musicians go to twiddle their thumbs.
These Irish trad musicians are obviously the people most likely to be interested in a new CD of Irish trad music.
Aforementioned website's most viewed page is (I expect) the Discussions page.
Therefore, thinks the band's flute player, it might just be a good idea... to...

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
Which is precisely what Michael said in his post. "Well done."
You're the one ascribing darker motives to Michael's post.
For heaven's sake....

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
Michael Gill's unnecessary cynicism p**ses me, and others, off sometimes. Quite often, in fact. That is all.
And to say that, in this instance, it was anything but unnecessary cynicism is like looking up at the sky and saying it's green.

I'm with llig on this, for what it's worth. I come here to read something interesting, not lists of words and phrases meant for computers to find.

The Myspace site would also be much more effective without the black background and would be much easier to read.

Re: New Lunasa CD "La Nua"
I've very much enjoyed the two albums I bought a while ago without previously knowing much about Lunasa. I'll get this one. Surely nothing wrong with promoting it here. You have to dig a little deeper to get a track listing: http://www.lunasa.ie/?&catid=47&blogid=6&PHPSESSID=5976ac7e8a1fed165aa2fab4aee8dc60
