I dont really know anything about the group. I saw some Cds in the shop the last time I was browsing. If I was to buy one of their CVs, which would you recommend?
I have the first three recordings of the band and like "Lemonade and Buns" the best. It's true that the band deviates from the traditional music, but they do so intentionally, in a very creative way: they are much more talented than Dervish and Lunasa.
Mind the Gap or Tog e Go Bog e. Also a really nice little album Kila & Oki with a guy from an old tribal group in Japan - very nice. Yes not trad, but fun.
I think they are a pretty cool band-definitely non-trad, but I like that. In terms of CD's, I'd say I like Tog e Go Bog e the best, with Luna Park as a runner-up-not as wild about Lemonade and Buns and don't have any of the others.
The only thing I DON'T care for that they do is rap- don't care what language someone raps in- in this case, Gaelic I guess- don't like rap. I like their instrumental work though otherwise- so I just skip the cuts with vocals....hope that helps.....
Not sure who they could be compared to in terms of style- maybe Shooglenifty would be the closest?? With a bit of Peatbog Fairies thrown in?

Re: Kila
Rogha, a best of compilation should give you a good idea. BTW, they are not a trad band.

Re: Kila
Be warned. They are as far from traditional Irish music as U2

Tog é Go Bog é!
They're obviously having fun, but "the future of Irish music"? Sheesh!

Re: Kila
They don't pretend to be anything but who they are, and they have a hell of a lot of fun being so...

Come now, fun? Don't want to ruin everyone's misery with a little fun and creativity, do we?

Go for the live DVD, it's amazing.
More talented than Dervish or Lunasa? That's comparing apples to oranges to... coconuts.
