I'm currently in the market for a keyed/keyless wooden piccolo. Does anyone know of any other ebay-esque websites out there or IS anybody looking to sell their wooden piccolo (probably on the slim side..)? Thanks!
I reiterate what Kyle says. I got two excellent simple system (6 key) piccolos on ebay last year. One was blackwood (grenadilla) and cost £123, the other (much nicer) in rosewood with an ivory headjoint cost £57. There is not much to choose between them tone wise but the rosewood one is best. Just search for piccolo flute on ebay to filter out the stuff you do not want
Armand,
Go to http://www.sweetheartflute.com. They have fifes pitched in lots of keys, and the ones in D are essentially keyless piccolos. One, the Renaisance fife, is only $35. I have one, and it is a great little instrument, although, having a straight bore, the upper octave is a bit difficult to control.
Good luck, Al
I play old eBay piccolos. Many are <A=440 so head's up. These are German and American instruments, British and French models play at modern pitch. I've an HF Meyer German picc that does play at 440 but its keys are too easy to collide with so it's tricky to play, so I favor other piccs.
Only rule I apply is to avoid anything that doesn't have a name. My Trade Secret. ;) I'm done with shopping for these dusty bits of grenadilla so good luck! Piccolos are great fun. Very old fashioned trad, too. Whistles, feh. Too Celtic!
Where to buy a wooden piccolo?

Re: Where to buy a wooden piccolo?
Do you want a piccolo or a fife? In any case, Skip Healy sells both, but they are on the high side (and worth it, BTW).

Re: Where to buy a wooden piccolo?
I recently got a bamboo piccolo made by Billy Miller and am quite happy with it. You can watch a demo of his bamboo flutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_N-bsuSrcY It's only $45 and available from HMT website: http://www.hmtrad.com/catalog/winds/flutes.html

Re: Where to buy a wooden piccolo?
Lord, Kevin - you are piccoloed up to the max! Terry McGee also makes piccolos, either keyed or keyless, which he distinguishes from fifes.

Re: Where to buy a wooden piccolo?
They usually sell for cheap - $50 is typical. Few are interested in non-UK instruments so that keeps the price down, too.
