That´s a great album. Anders Trabjerg and Jonas Fromseier - two Danes living in Galway who deserve all the recognition that comes their way for the good music they play. Well constructed sets and loads of energy, plus excellent tambourine and bodhran contributions by Niall McQuaid and Johnny McDonagh.
Yes - great CD. Both top notch musicians. I'd heard their playing before and knew they were both very good, but after hearing this CD, I realised that they're not just very good, but bloody excellent!
Very nice! I love the old Flannagan brother 78's so I really dig this! Brightened up the morning during this 'end-of-the-world-snowstorm were getting here!
hmm.
Not sure about the above, as I thought a lot of those tunes were newly compsed .... maybe I'm wrong though.
The Flanagans tunes and a similar way the flanagans played can also be heard on:
The Tap Room Trio
Humdinger: Brock and Scahill
There's a Frankie Gavin album where he plays a lot of their tunes too. - Irelands Harvest? could be wrong
At the racket - all of their albums have at least one of the Flanagan brothers sets, and one of their songs.
Colm Gannon plays their tunes.
The Great Danes stuff has some seriously technical banjo playing. I had a nose bleed the first time I listened to it, but love it. Love the tunes on it.
look on ebay for 78's.
there are lots of lnks with their playing on them too.
I dont have them now.
yes, some of munnelly's tunes are newly composed. i didn't say he played flanagan brothers tunes. i said he plays a flanagan brothers-influenced sound. that's by his own account, and you can indeed hear the influence. it's that, two-row accordion-played-like-a-one-row-melodeon, back-and-forth c#/d sound. joe derrane also has a flanagan brothers-influenced sound. not my sound, given that i like a conor tully/paddy carty-esque b/c or piano-accordion sound or a joe cooley c#/d sound, which is not as violently flanagan brothers/kimmelish....as the extreme press-draw sound.....
Jonas is a good buddy of mine and his banjo playing is really something that needs to be seen to be believed. Anders is a legend in his own right. Definitely do yourselves a favor and check them out!
Great Danes
Great Danes
Anyone heard this album of banjo and accordion? Absolutely fabulous set of tunes in the old Kimmel style.

Re: Great Danes
Seeing Dave Munnelly blasting out tunes on a one-row melodeon is an unforgettable experience! Hard to compare him with anyone else, imho.
