I personally like the twin MIchael Holmes (bouzouki) and Brian McDonagh (mandola) attack of Dervish. Their double CD, Live at Palma, is great, in part because the bouzouki is panned hard right and the mandola panned hard left. That makes it easy to hear what each if them is doing.
On my 4 visits to Ireland I've come across some really tasteful bouzouki ists. Gerry McNamara, who I think resides somewhere near Limerick, Mick Campbell, and Pat Brouder, who was playing with US piano accordeonist Jimmy Keane. Alec Finn of course, and Eoin O'Neill from Clare is always good value. I also came across a clip from the 70s of Charlie Harris the well known acordeonist playing some pretty mean bouzouki back-up
Eamon Doorley's recent work with Julie Fowlis and Dual is superb. Mick Broderick in Slide has come up with some pretty intricate rhythmic tricks. Mick Conneelly is carrying on the Alec Finn approach. Pat Marsh appears on a couple of the best releases last year. The newer combination of bouzouki and piano works really well IMHO.
Luke Plumb's bouzouki work with fiddler Simon Bradley in Wintering Out is great stuff - bouyant, inventive, and filled with Luke's irrepressible spirit. The Tasmanian plays with conviction.

Bouzouki Players in Groups/Ensembles
Hey all
Which of the the top traditional groups/ensemble have bouzouki players and who are they?
Can anyone think of any famous guitar or bouzouki players that have been strongly influenced by Dónal Lunny?

Don't forget Mick Conneely. He might be a fiddler primarily, but he's also a damn tasty bouzoukist.
