Hello,
I have just started a new gig and realise we now need an ambient mic to lift the volume a little through the pubs own speaker system. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type or model to go for? I have seen some around that are quite small and do the job perfectly..
Of course, these mics may be at the wrong side of the Atlantic for you........but we have no idea, as you haven't posted any biog !
As I always say....it doesn't have to be specific enough toi dentify you, but general locality, instruments, and experience, plus a bit of literary embroidery to amuse, make a good biog. Plus specifying which side of the Big Ditch you are; Boston ? Cambridge ? Rochester ? Huntingdon ? I know all of these both sides now.......
Actually, if you took any ordinairy mike, then reversed the polarity on the two leads, that should give you a playback at inverted phase, which will mean that the louder they talk, the quieter they get !
Good luck JudeThomas. It would be interesting to hear what changes as a result of using the mike - ie how and where people talk and whether it's an improvement over what you had before.
I've played sometimes in restaurants where I've had an amp and I've had people come over who explain they were round the corner or in an adjacent room, and didn't realise the music was live. I never quite know what to make of that sort of comment but I guess it's a compliment! But another part of me thinks, why not get people to make a special effort to listen (ie stand quite near you)? Or maybe that's just a triumph of idealism over experience...

If used these & had no problems. I'm sure someone else makes something that costs alot more & will wax poetic about how much better it is.
But this'll do fine for what your after.

Re: Session Mic
The problem with using a mic at a session is that people then have to talk louder to be heard above the music.
true.

Re: Session Mic
Shame there's not something that works in reverse, making the punters quieter. Sort of like noise-cancelling headphones!
