The price isn't much different than the Garvey or Hohners, but the sound is absolutely fabulous, the playability is excellent, and the box is still affordable. I cut my teeth on a Dancemaster, and even though I now own a Paolo Soprani, I still play the Dancemaster regularly and find it to be a phenomenal box. Michael, who makes the accordions, is very friendly and easy to work with, and he will work with you to make sure that you get what you're after. Hohners and Garveys don't have the sound quality or the action of Dancemasters... these are cheaper than Saltarelles or Castagnaris, but far better quality than the ones you're looking at. Trust me, the price difference is worth the quality difference. If you're looking for a beginner box, I'd say get a Dancemaster. It will serve you longer and better.
I'm a beginning box player and I totally agree, Michael of Dancemaster Accordions is the way to go for a box if you're starting out. Great quality and great price and really ethical.
There is a nice cheap B/C hohner on ebay at the moment, may need a little work but these accordions stand the test of time and will always have a resale value
everyone knows I have a saltarelle, except without the answer to Al B's question there could be a better answer.
John Williams can help those in the states, and the Boube is a good starter. But with the cheap dollar, prices are up.
I am also one of Michael at IrishDancemaster's fans. A very good place to start. Prices are very reasonable for those in the STates oaying in dollars and having the box shipped.
There are so few off us box players left that I wouldn't want to scare an aspiring player away on price!

Re: help choosing accordion
If you're after a beginning accordion, my recommendation is that you buy one from Michael Usui in Florida at Irish Dancemaster accordions.

If I were in Ireland and in your situation, t00116131, I'd contact Martin Quinn or John Brosnan and see if you can get a souped up Hohner from them.
That's all Martin himself seems to play, and Josephine Marsh too.
