One cardinal sin at sessions is to divert from the tempo and/or rhythm...I love to change tempo & rhythm when playing with myself...musically speaking.
What do you do, when by yourself, that would be considered taboo at a session???

I wish. There was a bloke at our session a few months ago who was having some issues with this and singlehandedly killed the session. It was HORRENDOUS.
Re: Things You'd Do At Home But Never In a Session
At home: I ornament a tune to my liking, or in the manner of some artist I admire.
At a session: I play a tune straight as an arrow, and listen to what the crew is doing. Then I try to emulate their version.
(or versions, or versions of versions, etc. etc. ad nauseum, ad infinitum...)
Re: Things You'd Do At Home But Never In a Session
Not much, really. If I'm going to break a taboo might as well have a witness. Off the top of my head the only thing I can come up with is ~ play a solo. I try to avoid doing this in session.
Re: Things You'd Do At Home But Never In a Session
Play Old-Time tunes.
Practice my tenor banjo.
Pull out my 5 string banjo (don't worry, I have a conceal and carry permit to operate a banjo in my state (California)).
Re: Things You'd Do At Home But Never In a Session
Whew. Great entries everyone. If not for shanty's "read the session.org" I think Llig's "play on my own" would have won. A close one-two finish, no doubt.

Character is what you think about in private but don't do in public.

Re: Things You'd Do At Home But Never In a Session
That's an easy questions, there's a lot of things I do at home that I generally try to avoid at sessions:
Stop playing in the middle of a tune to brush my teeth and change into pyjamas.
Walk around in my underwear.
Drink buttermilk.
Noodle.
Feed the cat. At sessions I leave that to the landlord.
...and many many more.

Re: Things You'd Do At Home But Never In a Session
I put my elbows on the variations and my feet on the ornaments, but then again, it's OK, it's my house. I wouldn't do that at someone else's house.

I play my favourite tunes at home. It's a shame that nobody plays Fermanagh flute tunes in sessions.

Play the melody and the accompaniment at the same time instead of just accompanying someone else.

Recite:
"She stood on the bridge at midnight
And gave a little shiver.
She gave a cough,
Her leg fell off,
And floated down the river".
I know I have.
