I've run into a bit of bad luck with my flute, the cork at the head joint seems to have swelled. Unfortunately I didn't notice until I had put the flute together to play. As it is, the parts are solid together I can't even get any twist at the joint. Any suggestions for safely separating the two (aside from using cork lube more often, I think I just got that one loud and clear!)?
I have had this before, and after 1-2 days of leaving it alone, the additional liquid that caused the swelling had vaporized to such an extend that, while being tight, I could seperate it. Needless to say, I'm now cured of "not needing to grease the cork so much".
I would agree - leave the flute for a few days until the swelling naturally goes down. Do not try and use force to separate the flute parts. Lubricate more in future.
Cork swelling?

Re: Cork swelling?
Try leaving it in a cold dry place... might work..

Re: Cork swelling?
Thanks for the advice. I let sit for a day and was able to separate. Now, for more on global warming....
