Re: Tabs for celtic fingerstyle guitar

what exactly do you mean by celtic? That's a *really* big umbrella.

Celtic

I think it has something to do with Leprechaums and Guinness. And long, mournfull notes played on the low whistle.

Re: Tabs for celtic fingerstyle guitar

Conal O'Grada told Dirk Mewes that the low whistle is really only good for hanging curtains, Glauber. *grin*

I think you're actually talking about "Oirish" there, Glauber, not Celtic. Celtic would be that category of Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Brittany (Will's favorite!), Galician, and, in some camps, Persian music -- you know, they're all so much alike at first listen.

Please don't feel insulted, though, Flicker -- it's a long standing joke and complaint amongst trad musicians. "Celtic" only works if you only rarely listen to the traditional music of where the Celts lived and raved, or are just getting started in this stuff. Once you get obsessed by it (like the majority of us here), you start hating the word. After all, the Celts were everywhere from Italy to India to China (well, almost) to Switzerland by the time they were done. While calling Persian music Celtic is pushing the envelope til the seams break, "Celtic" music encompasses a lot of music forms that really are different in many ways to its devotees, at any rate! :)

Try www.celticgutarmusic.com I was able to download tab for The Wind that Shakes the Barley in Drop D. This is Glenn Weiser's site. I'm still working on this tune but ended up buying his book "Celtic (Sorry, there it is again) Encyclopedia - Fingerstyle Guitar Edition"

I think Celtic fingrestyle guitar is where you make an obscene hand gesture at a hockey player just before doing an "El Kabong" on him...

Re: Tabs for celtic fingerstyle guitar

hehehehe. Jeff, where have you BEEN? *grin* What the heck is an El Kabong? Besides mechanics, sports are the other thing that I'm hopeless at. Oh, and any kind of mathmatical anything.

El Kabongo

I think it's an old cartoon. If i remember right, he was a Mexican/Western type (a horse maybe?) and he carried a guitar that he used to bash the baddies with, on the nogan. Or maybe i'm just making this up.

Re: Tabs for celtic fingerstyle guitar

I think we're confusing sports with old Cheech and Chong movies here.... :-)

Sports often reminds me of old Cheech and Chong movies, Will... Heh.

Returning to the subject at hand...

Glenn Weiser's collection of harp tunes has some good stuff, although I've found myself adjusting his fingerings a lot. Haven't seen the encyclopedia, but it sounds interesting.
There's a simple but fun arrangement of the Wise Maid that I did a few years ago that you can have an ASCII copy of - I've put it up at
