Johnny Ringo McDonnagh Allec Finn Donal Lunny are often refered to as legendary traditional musicians . Should they not be considered backing musicians since they never have to learn or play a tune.
If hungover, try chicken/beef stock, it replenishes both water and mineral content pretty quickly. Drink a lot of water. You should be back on track by early afternoon.
Contrary to popular belief, dairy products (like kefir or youghurt) give only a feeling of refreshment for a short time, actually lying heavy on the stomach afterwards.
A familiarity with the subject would a nice start before waxing critical of another musician or musicians.
That, and proper spelling - it makes you comments a bit more plausible to the masses.
I remember watching a documentary once about India where there was a scene that showed lots of stray dogs scavenging on a rubbish dump. Suddenly they all turned on another dog who had recently joined them and tore the poor sod apart. It's was horrible.....Now I wonder what brought that to mind?
Johnny McDonnagh Percussionist.
Donal Lunny Accompanist.
Alec Finn Accompanist.
Brilliant musicians in their field. It was never a requirement that they had to learn or play a tune.
If you are doing accompaniment you are accompaning the tune there for some one is playing the tune.
If no one is playing the tune then there is no accompaniment .
( no idea where we are going with this )
If you have listened to Alec Finn playing with de Dannan, or on other projects like the Mary Bergin CDs, and think that AF doesn't know the tunes then IMO you've not really been listening.
I'm certain I've heard Donal Lunny play many many tunes, yes I mean the melody. Bouzouki players tend to start playing chords after many musicians have joined in because their instrument isn't loud enough to play straight melody over 3 fiddles, a set of pipes, a flautist and a banjo player.
A little experiment . listening to Mary Bergins cd. Remove the whistle track, listen to Alec Finn bazouki track on its own. Now tell me what tune is being played. Where can I get a solo bazouki cd with guitar accompaniment or where can I get a solo badhran cd with piano accompaniment using nice chords.
Why are people trying to degrade Allec Finn Donal Lunny Johnny McDonnagh Steve Cooney Artie McGlynn just because they are not lead musicians but are the most briliant accompanists of our time.
weigh twitchers? Is that like really really boring bird watchers who are not content to merely tick rare birds off a list, but they have to get them on the bathroom scales too? Sounds like they deserve being eaten.
This discussion reminds me of the scene from "Love At First Bite" where Count Dracula makes the mistake of feeding on a homeless man who is a wino and the wino's blood makes Count Dracula drunk.
We now know a little bit about the people who use this web site. Not much to do with music as I had guessed. Jim Sweeney only knew two parts of "Colonel Frazer " on the bodhran but he could play the whole tune on the spoons.

"Where can I get a solo bazouki cd with guitar accompaniment "
Try Roger Landes' 'Dragon Reels' or Joseph Sobel's 'Citternalia', and then tell us that bazouki players can't play melodies.
A lot of Robin Bullock's earlier work would also fit the bill.
