I promise i checked the tunes first...

I'm looking for a barney mckenna-esque version of mason's apron, one that goes up the neck further than the one in the tunes section. I tried googleing it but it's not working and the ABC thing makes my brain cry....Any one know where to find it?

Re: I promise i checked the tunes first...

I doubt you will find written music for Barney's version, unless some enthusiast has bothered to transcribe it, because he is playing his variation of it, I presume (don't think I've heard it), which may vary from one performance to the next, in minor ways.
Get a handle of the basic tune, and, perhaps using Barney as a model, try working out some higher-fret versions for yourself. You'll learn some in the process.

Bear in mind that people will hate you if you play a 12 part version in a session. Everyone plays their own version which is incompatible with everyone else's. makes a good party piece but a poor session tune.

It's not too tricky - just notes in and about the A Maj scale and an open E string, a bit of syncopation here and there. Not much point in trying to copy anyone else's version

Steve - If you scroll through the comments for the tune submission, you'll find a transcription of Sean McGuire's version. I think you'll find it in a similar vein to McKenna's version - I think McGuire's version might be the version that inspired his or, at the very least, they're from a common source.
