Is anybody interested in sharing traditional tunes with me through itunes. I was looking for people with relatively big itunes libraries. You can download the software HREF="http://customersupport.networksolutions.com">here
Thanks
James
I had been using Windows media player to manage all my folders of mp3 session recordings then when I installed itunes it moved all the files (many hundreds) into one folder in My Music called 'Unknown Artist' and 'Unknown Album'.
I'm still trying to sort out the mess and recover the details of each recording.
I had a similiar iTunes disaster. It also can have a mind of it's own and decide to convert all of your WMV files to MP3 when you import tunes into it, because it thinks this would make your life easier. bah!
From the earliest days I didn't get on with way windows media player managed files. I found it a lot easier to move them around in windows explorer. Call me old fashioned. Would iTunes mess around with WAV and or WMV files stuck in my documents/my music etc.?
I think that the reported problems with iTunes only happen if it is selected to be the default player and the box edit/preferences/advanced/keep itunes music folder organised is ticked.
i'm not sure i'm tech savvy enough to understand this. but a friend sent me a .wmv so i could learn it, and i nearly went nuts trying to get it onto my ipod touch by way of itunes on my mac computer.
can anybody tell me, in simple english, how i might go about this? please be gentle.
Wmv is the windows media format; I think you need to have the file in mp3 format for your ipod. There is conversion software that can easily do that but I don't know what is available for a Mac. A search of a site such as cnet should turn up something for you. An easier method would be if your friend can do the conversion for you.
If you have a Mac that has iTunes, open iTunes, click on the" iTunes" heading on the menu bar, click on "Preferences", click on "Import Settings", set "MP3 encoder" in "Import Settings" then open the wmv file using iTunes. While the file is highlighted and playing, click on "Edit" in the iTunes menu, click on "Get Info" and see if next to "Kind" it reads "MPEG audio file" and next to "Format" it reads "MPEG-1, Layer 3". If so you should be able to download it to the iPod. If not go up to "Advanced" in the iTunes menu and select "Create MP3 version". The wmv file that you have highlighted will have a copy of it made in mp3 format while a status bar moves across the iTunes selection window and that mp3 copy will appear below the highlighted wmv selection when a chime rings. That copy can be downloaded to the iPod.
joesmith, thanks. i made sure my itunes preferences impoet settings were set on mp3 encoder, but had mistakenly identified the file, it is a .wma; i was able to get it out of the mail and onto my desktop, but can't get it into itunes.
if i try to drag it, it wont go, if i try to right click, it doesn't offer me itunes as an option for opening.
i may have to dust off the old pc and see what it can or will do; or i may just listen to the thing on my computer and learn it off there.
i have successfully turned other files into mp3's but these wma's defeat me.

Re: Simplify Media
SimplyMedia works with Windows Media Player and others, not just iTunes.
It sounds similar to Spotify, Last.fm and other music sharing ideas.
