Sandymount or Sandmount Reel?

Sandymount or Sandmount Reel?

I always thought it was typo on De Danann's second LP where they called it the Sandmount reel (not the Sandymount), but I have since been assured that this is in fact the real name.

However I've just looked again at Kevin Taylor's LP and he definitely called the same tune the Sandymount.

Does anyone know of a source to this tune prior to these? If so, I'd love to know!

Sandymount... it's a delightful beach in Dublin we used to get our car stuck on every Sunday when I was a boy :)

There's a bit on the James Keane "Live in Dublin" where he's introducing this tune and says something to the effect of "what you call it depends on where you're from; it's a Dublin tune if you call it the Sandymount, otherwise it's the Sandmount."

Yeah, I tend to agree with James' comments. I call it the Sandymount, as a Dub, but I know it was widely recorded as The Sandmount and also Mick Hand's.
