Has youtube taken some of the transatlantic sessions off?
I really enjoyed the clip of Michael McGoldrick, Fred Morrison, Donal Lunny and Jerry Douglas, but it seems to have been taken down! Is there anywhere else where you can watch the old transatlantic sessions?
Don't know about old programmes. Maybe that's the Beeb defending their DVD sales but how bad was the An Phis Fliuch/Oot Be Esta Vong set on last week's installment of the new series?
How many have they shown so far ?
I caught up with the first of the new series late at night, presumably a repeat.
My wife and I refer to Oot Be Esta Vong as The Ikea Reel, as the title does sound like a couple of bits of scandanavian furniture.
Not forgetting the Tourettes Reel/Jig/whatever, which is the new tune you can't get right yet, so you keep swearing as you play it.
I was a little disconcerted by the way they played a set of tunes but just named them 'the fiddlers blast' or some such thing instead of giving them their proper names.
I suppose the problem might be that considering the wide variety of places the players hale from they may all have different names for each tune?!
Looks like the second in the series tonight. I liked the piper set, everyone looked a little scared at the beginning then they found their feet and were rockin'at the end
From the various replies to this I work out that they show the newest show early in the evening, then repeat the previous weeks' show later on BBC4, like at 1am ( yawn ) when I saw it. Not much of this is easily apparent from the sketchy listings you get for these minority interest networks and channels.
I didn't mind the An Phis Fliuch/Ikea Reel set - ok, for anyone who remembers the Boys of the Lough and Planxty from the '70s', remember these guys are a lot older, more experienced, and a little less driven by the testo-sterone then they used to be.
Do you have a problem with that ?
Must admit I could have missed Martha Wainwright's song quite happily this evening.
Maybe this show has run past it's ability to totally captivate ?
The first couple of years were brilliant though. I can live happily with those memories.

I have found a few on Emule, give it a try, I don't think I've found any with Donal Lunny though

Re: transatlantic sessions
Honestly that "rendition" of An Phis Fliuch/Oot be esta Vong sounded like some of the woefully execrable outfits I've been involved with in my time.

Re: transatlantic sessions
I loved the slow tune, Flat Water Fran, lovely arrangement with the dobro coming in etc.
