Is there free software that will convert a .m4a file to a .mp3 file?

Is there free software that will convert a .m4a file to a .mp3 file?

I need to convert several such files and haven't the foggiest. I'm on a PC running XP and Windows 2007. I have Audacity but it's telling me I need to convert the file, which leads me to believe it can't do it itself.

Sorry to throw this technojumble into our lovely mustard trad forums, but...help, anyone? Trust me, it's for an important ITM-related cause...

iTunes will. Set your import settings to MP3, right-click on the file and choose "Create MP3 version".

I'm not sure about MP4 conversion, but you can give this free download a try.
