Found on YouTuuuube: "Hardball's Chris Matthews Takes Bobby Casey, Jr. To Task." Did he miss a note or something? ;)
I've seen something else of the fiddler, forget where. In a group with the Kellies?
Have you queued up all the BC stuff at the BBC website? I've digitized Clancy/Carty/Farr/Power/Kearney/etc already since finding out about it last week, am putting off working on the Bobby recordings though, since there's about 200 files, also I already have The Spirit of the Cowhouse in Flight from the West Wind, not to mention a reallllly long private tape, I'm fairly well stocked up on the man.
Have a listen to PJ Kilroy on that site - great puffy Sligo flute playing. He isn't really, contrary to the notes, "out of tune with the piano," albeit Reg was temporarily thrown off by PJ picking up an Eb whistle. The notes for the "Packy Dugnan" (Packie Duignan) material say this: "Recordist notes that performer is drunk." No harm done that I can tell!
Other finds: You can hear the whole session for Jimmy Power's "Irish Dances" LP, including material not used on the record. Jimmy's version of the Four Courts and the Irish Girl slip jig seem to have been picked up from Michael Gorman, whose material I just listened to - he plays a raft of tunes that I bet he simply picked up out of O'Neill's. No duplication with what's on the Sligo Champion CDs, either.
BBC website, in case you're not sure what I'm talking about: http://sounds.bl.uk/Default.aspx Files are for listening only, but you can capture the audio easy enough.
There is of course the two Thatch Ceili Band items on Youtube in which Bobby is one of the fiddler. Not a personal close up but nevertheless a couple of great items.
Some of that stuff wound up on The Spirit of West Clare CD. There are also tracks with a flutist and accordionist - very clacky keys on that box - any idea who they'd be? Perhaps it says in the liner notes. Andy O'Boyle plays 2nd fiddle here and there - I can tell it's him, he's addressed by name. Grand music but try starting at the bottom of the list - about the first 20 tracks are snippets of the lads warming up, very tiresome to wade through. There are also completely irrelevant tracks in there - Joe Heaney singing 7 Nights Drunk at a concert, Christy Moore or someone singing a ballad...
My guess as to why the LP was never released is because the music's generally quite loose - they were obviously having a great time here!
Videos of Bobby Casey?
Videos of Bobby Casey?
Got a crush on the man, no lie.
So, there's only one that I've found on YouTube of himself with Tommy Keane.. but there MUST be more somewhere out there... Right?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Armand

Re: Videos of Bobby Casey?
Yes, I'd love to see his bowing / fingering technique in action. He was
a one man band.

Lovely stuff. P-K, the two jigs are Strike the Gay Harp (http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1216) and the Legacy (http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/2259)

Thanks, Rev, for those links. There's much other lovely BC stuff on there, as Kevin says.
