Hey guys, I've moved to Beijing for a year to study out here and was just wondering if there's any other folk musicians out here and whether anyone knows of a session? There's a couple of other threads on here but they're quite old so thought I'd try again! I've asked about the possibility of starting one at Paddy O'Shea's (the Irish bar, in case it was difficult to work out!) and the guy seemed open to it...

I was in Beijing for a couple of weeks earlier this year and found it a really interesting place. Where are you staying? Sorry I don't know of any sessions there - I hope you get something going. In case you didn't find it already, there is a whole strip of music shops on Xinjiekou Daijie in Jishui Tan. I stayed near there on Xihai Lake.
If you do find a session over there, I'd be interested to know. I get across about once or twice a year and always take the whistle with me at least. Keep us posted. And if you're there for the language:

I know Antoin MacGabhann is flying to China around about Oct 19 but I'm not sure what he's doing there, I think he's performing somewhere.
