On all the others I have seen you can see all the places where it hinges to fold into something small enough to get into a small rucksack, but on this one all the hinges are hidden. Marvellous.
Think it's a device for scorching your design into the surface of the wood. But hey, as I've observed here before, the man now has a music stand to look at and admire after an afternoons work. He can look upon this till his dying days.. but what have you got after an afternoons music?
but you can only put music on there that uses the treble clef, that's a bit of a limitation is it not?
Also, if I was going to the trouble of making a wooden stand I really would put a little shelf on there for beer, fags etc. Perhaps some clamp options for hanging a fiddle, mandolin etc on there. Perhaps a mobile phone holder?
I do hope you used the correct glues throughout.
Glue is very important in music stand construction and using an inappropriate glue can cause them to fall over or run off with the raggle taggle gypsies.
Be warned!
On the occasion that I use dots to learn at tune at home I just blu-tac the paper to the wall - very cheap, adjustable, portable, doesn't take up much space = job done!
The only youtube "video" where the subject of the video is stationary ....
P.S. Do you supply versions with alto, tenor or bass clefs?
Very nice piece of woodcraft. However, don't bring one to any of our sessions in Bristol (UK). They don't approve of sheet music - let alone music stands ....
Homemade music stand

Re: Homemade music stand
Since you asked--my advice is to just buy one, and use the time to play tunes instead.

Just a few thoughts.

Re: Homemade music stand
"opinions and advice welcome" Maybe lighten the top with some cut outs. Definitely make adjustable

Re: Homemade music stand
Perhaps you could construct one large enough for an entire session to share?
It would need more supports, perhaps.
And more beer holders.
Nice job.

Re: Homemade music stand
My home made music include an extension arm to hold my mandolin on the back side and a place for my shot of Jameson.
Photos to follow in private e-mail.

Re: Homemade music stand
Kerry, I do think if I make another, I'll do cut outs. I agree it would lighten the top.
Rook, a session stand eh ? might need a truck to haul it...lol

Re: Homemade music stand
It's not unlike a bird-table I made once, tho' I'm sure the music stays firmly put on this- the birds kept sliding off.
