Choose something you can already play on fiddle, but for a beginner
it needs to be well inside the whistle range of notes. For the sake
of the person sitting next to you, try to pick something that only goes
up to g or a. The whistle is really obnoxious above that.
Hornpipes:
Boys of Bluehill
Off To California
Harvest Home
Chief O'Neill's Favorite
JIgs:
Kesh
Tobin's Favorite
Lark In The Morning
Butcher's March
Saddle The Pony
Reels:
Silver Spear
Flower Of The Flock
Ballymote
Glass Of Beer
All of them likely here in "Tunes", and you'll likely hear all of them at a session, sooner or later.

Hi Kirsten,
Jim Ward's jig is a nice easy tune to get started with on the D whistle:

Since you already play the fiddle, maybe it would be a good idea to start out with a tune you already know?

You have the "Legacy" jig in your tune book, Kirsten. That's a good whistle tune too.

Also from your tune book, this is a great tune to play on the whistle. You'll want to learn get your crans in order for this one...

I like Off to California--you can play the whole thing without lifting your top index finger, so there's no danger of losing your grip.
