I was hoping someone could shed some light on the following...
When talking about whistles at a recent session one of the guys that was there (a flute player) recommended what he believed was a Burke whistle. He described it as a black wooden whistle with (in his opinion) one of the nicest tones/sounds he has heard from a whistle.
When looking at the Burke whistle website, as far as I can see, all whistles are either made of metal or composite. So this has kind of left me curious as to which whistle he could have been talking about? It wasn't an Abel whistle either, because this one was also talked about in the same discussion...
I think the whistle that you are talking about is the Seery whistle. They are harder to fill than ordinary whistle but have a lovely tone. This weblink basically has all the maker so you can decide for yourself
I suspect there could be several candidates that would fit this description - given the description of the tone Rose springs to mind - blackwood with silver rings, but there is also Abell and several more.
Incidentally, is Seery still making whistles, I haven't seen them advertised or mentioned in many a long day.

Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance.
