I am just trying to figure out how to get my pickled synapses to deal with relearning enough Polish for a trip to the 'old country' next year.....show Herself where Ireland's current largest immigrant group came from. I don't know if I could handle learning enough Swedish to survive!
From what I could find out Ronneby might be alot of fun. Pix show a gorgeous sea front nearby. I wonder about weather though. We went to Nova Scotia last week, were soaked with torrential rain when we weren't fog bound. A fellow we met was very upset about the gulf stream moving closer to Canada mucking up their weather. Over 90 degrees F ( 32 plus C), and no one has air conditioning.
Well at Ronneby, after a few cold ones I might even be able to pick up a couple of words. It worked in Donegal!
Well I don't speak a word of Swedish. Don't they all just speak English with Swedish accents?
Certainly from the website I haven't a clue what else is going on at the festival but that doesn't matter. It will make it all the more fun upon arrival!
Yes, we all speak English with Swedish accent!
(It's a bit funny: on the website it says: choose language - and you've got one alternative: Swedish.)
If you're interested in Swedish folk/trad there are some gems like Hedningarna and Johan Hedin. There are also some bluegrass artists. The closest you come to ITM is Scottish "afro-celt" group the Moonzie Allstars and Irish singer-songwriter John Leo Carter.
Ronneby is situated in county Blekinge, which is one of the most beautiful parts of the country. No guarantees for good wheather ever in Sweden, but there's a good chance for sun and heat in august.
Unfortunately I can't go myself, as I've had my summer vacation aldready.

Re: Ronneby Folk Festival
I remember seeing a poster when I was a kid with Basil Fawlty screaming at Manuel (UK TV reference alert).
It came with a slogan along the lines of:
"Don't bother learning another language. Just shout louder in English!"
I can't find it anywhere online but it makes me chuckle to remember it.

Re: Ronneby Folk Festival
Fawlty Towers airs on PBS of-and-on here in the states.
Herself absolutely hates it!. Maybe it cuts too close to home. I don't know if Basil Fawlty was a box player though......
