OK where do i start in a nut sell i didn't enjoy it, i probably went to the concert expecting music played like the old style DE dannan and in my opinion it was far from that, apart from the short appearance,s of ex members Martin o Connor , Dolores and Mary Black which were all fantastic the rest was disappointing.I taught the bodhran and guitar were way too amplified but that's just my opinion i actually enjoy bodhran and guitar played in trad music.Maybe it was just that i didn't recognise much of the stuff they were playing but even the tunes i was familiar with i didn't really like the style they were played in .To sum it up all four are without doubt very talented musicians and the three new singers that performed were excellent but it wasn't for me and i wouldn't go again.
is it just me or was that world fleadh utter crap??
i am writing to tell you how disppointed i am about the world fleadh...there was hardly any music in local pubs(i dont know why there was even a list up of participating pubs holding sessions)..the 1 or 2 pubs that had sessions were private and i was informed they were bands and could not join in..im 20years of age have been playing d box for 15 years,am an active member of comhaltas and have attended all the fleadhs....this was my first time to come to the world fleadh and will be my last...all it is is a money racket..the only ting i enjoyed was the bed and breakfast.. all that was at the world fleadh was expensive concerts..sharon shannon was brill but come on 44.50 i paid 20 to see her in athlone....the town was dead and most of the locals said it wasnt even like a fleadh there was no atmosphere... the so called events in the mall was a disaster since when is a gig rig a trailer????rock music?????? absolutely useless...will be informing everyone at the all ireland about this useless event...
edwina, the concert might well have been good, but yourself, Tony McM and Frankie G are probably the only people who would describe the band booked to play as "de dannan".
ok yes so theres a rather big name issue with the band, a side from that, if i was at home i would have gone to the concert as i can only imagine the music would have been top class, hope to get to this group in killarney, heres a link to their latest tracks from their website, i think their good, is this the type of music they played at the concert? http://www.dedannan.com/listen.php
