I've studied different makes and models of accordions over the years and i'm at the stage now where i think no accordion is worth a 2 year wait-really. Well Dougie Briggs wants us to wait 3 -4 years.. er no at the end of the day just get a half decent box and just practise till your fingers are bleeding. I've tried a Briggs and a Gaillard and they're good but 2 years?
Maybe if they speeded up their production a bit i wouldn't be so harsh but the wait is too much for me. Just my 2 cents.
These are craftsmen/artists working alone and have produced a product that many find superior. I would not begrudge them their success or their waiting list, which does not diminish their value.
Some things are worth waiting for.. so buy a Castagnari and order a Briggs or a Gaillard. Hone your skills and be ready for a different level of excellence.
When I first spoke with Gaillard his waiting list was 4 months and the prices were half what they are now. My error in not getting one then.
I would order a Gaillard or a Briggs but I have a play before you pay policy , or a no questions asked return policy. Nothing personl with these tow builders but just my stance after some interesting experiences with handmade instruments.
upmine, count yourself lucky you're not a piper wanting a set from a top maker, or even a flute player. Two years is peanuts. A friend of mine recently received a flute from Chris Wilkes that he waited 11 years for....
I know the Galliard boxes are held in high regard, and the ones I have heard have beautiful tone quality. But I have found them to be very quiet. I always wonder if they can hold their own with other instruments.
At my age, a two year wait would mean the box could be part of my estate.....or in Herself's garage sale after I exchange my box for a harp!
