Re: The other side of Arty McGlynn

Arty McGlynn is bilingual!
And not bad at his second language, either....

Re: The other side of Arty McGlynn

Nice playing. but we shouldn't be surprised. He's very good at playing trad, so why wouldn't he be good at jazz as well?

I suspect he's probably more than just bilingual.

Re: The other side of Arty McGlynn

Didn't he start out playing jazz and "standards"?

Re: The other side of Arty McGlynn

...which could explain why his trad playing sounds a bit American (whatever that means).

Re: The other side of Arty McGlynn

I'm pretty sure that Arty first made his name in the 1960s with The Platters, a showband from Omagh. I suspect his jazz leanings came later.

Started with the Showbands, as did many others.

Re: The other side of Arty McGlynn

Arty's mother was a fiddle player and his father was a box player. At the age of 5 he was a competent box player, then he started the banjo. His mother bought him his first guitar when he was 12. So, whatever his style, his roots are traditional.
