Please note that the cabin boy's name was Tom and not Roger! Also, there was no Master Bates nor any seaman with the surname Staines!

The box player featured on the TV recording ,whose name escapes me at the moment, died a few years ago. Although his recording was played numerous times on the TV, he never got any royalties, as he was paid an initial fee for recording.

Re: Captain Pugwash RIP

I had the impression that the recording was actually an original collection from a source musician.
And, yes, the rude names subtext was a spoof news item dreamed up by a bored reporter one summer many years ago - 1970s' ? - no-one at the BBC obviously bothered to refute it.

Re: Captain Pugwash RIP

The Capt Pugwash Theme (Trumpet Hornpipe) was played by accordionist Tom Edmundson and arranged by Phillip Lane, learned from the playing of Jimmy Shand.

Rest in peace, Mr Ryan.

It was Victor Lewis-Smith who dreamed up all the Pugwash stories - http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/pugwash.asp.
