who sings the song take me up to monto monto? i first heard it in ballyshannon folk festival? i think but i would love to know who did it first.

Wasn't it Ronnie Drew who sang it with the Dubliners, not Luke Kelly ? The comic songs were more Ronnie's style. That may be the first recording of it, but who actually sang it first is a different matter. No doubt , the person who wrote it, but I've no idea who that might be. Sounds a bit like something Dominic Behan might have written, but that's just a guess.

I was lucky to be a member of the audience when Luke Kelly sang "MONTO" tho i'm sure there will be many other artists who have done it before and after tho none as good as Luke's version[my personal opinion]

Wasn't it written by George Hodnett, once the Irish Times music critic? If memory serves me well, he reviewed Dylan's first Dublin concert.
