I was looking for Sor's "Method" in a free PDF format and came up with much more than that at the following link. All is free for download in PDF format.

While we're on the subject of free pdf music sources, try this: http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page
It also doesn't have anything to do with ITM, as far as I am aware, but it is just possible that something may be hidden away in it somewhere.
Re: 19th Century Guitar Music - Free PDF Downloads
And still more from IMSLIP.
(Searched under "Irish". Might be worth trying. The pieces refer to "old Irish" works:

.
(With my attempt to approximate a Romantic era guitar awaiting fashioning of the bridge and the nut and the purchase of fret wire to finish the fingerboard, I was looking for something from the era to try on it, but it is true that the guitar wasn't "big" in Ireland during the Romantic era, as it was in Italy and Spain.)

The Library of Congress has over 47,000 items of sheet music available for free download (1870 - 1885 and earlier). You'd certainly find some Irish titles: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/sm1870query.html

I've been having a quick (life is short!) look at the Petrie Collection. A large number are song tunes, which explains why some are notated in keys with 4 sharps or 4 flats, for example. Petrie evidently notated these at the key the singer was using. There is a sizable number of instrumental tunes - jigs, reels etc - and these are generally in the key signatures we are familiar with.
I took two tunes at random from Volume 2. The first (Petrie #916), an unnamed reel from an old manuscript, appears to be an old version of the polka we know as "Riding on a load of hay" (tune #1239 on the tunes database here). The second tune (Petrie #940) named as "Geese in the bog" is an unfamiliar version in B minor (2 #s) of the tune we know. Plenty of scope here for research into how tunes change, and there must be a few gems well worth bringing back into circulation.
Re: 19th Century Guitar Music - Free PDF Downloads
I have started placing the ABCs of some of Petrie's untitled jigs and reels in my bio, for easy reference. If a tune now has a name or is in the Tunes database here please let me know, and I'll annotate it accordingly.

Re: 19th Century Guitar Music - Free PDF Downloads
As it happens, I have found something in IMSLP that is just about relevant - a piece by John Banister from the Playford collection.

Thanks Will!
No offense to anyone who is happy to see this thread.
However, a constant reminder of our reason to be never hurts.

Arthur, the search was well worth doing - the complete 3-volume Petrie Collection of Irish tunes (all 1584 of them) has recently been added to IMSLIP by "fynnjamin", to whom we must all be very grateful. The links are,
