Hey there music lovers. Please join us in the Fiddle World. What is it? It's a social network just for fiddlers (no bodhrans there)!
You are welcome to join and participate however you wish. There is never any fee. You can customize your home page/profile, upload unlimited sound files, pictures and videos and network with other fiddlers, fiddle makers and fiddle music lovers.
(Of course, Eliot's post also raises the question of whether or not it's name dropping if the person whose name you've let fall is a lesser player....)
Oh, Will, you mean like if I don't know Liz Carroll personally at all, but I, one day, ate lunch at the same picnic table as her, while she and John Doyle were talking, like that's name dropping? Just want to be sure.
At any rate, you're far too good of a player to participate in "Fiddle World" or any other online forum for that matter -- I mean, do Liz Carroll or John Doyle post here?
As far as who "are" I, with the word "are" emphasized as if to ask for my inner soul to be revealed, I am a 50 year old half-jewish bi-polar fiddle player, who diddles on the side on several other instruments.
I hate having to agree with Llig all the time. A fiddle is just one of
many tools for releasing tunes into the universe. It is the most
powerful, infuriating, maddening, frustrating tool for that purpose
though.
What is with hating agreeing with me? It seems that every time someone agrees with me, they prefix it with hating that it happens. Get a grip you spineless sicophants.
I feel like Howard Keel as Adam in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when after a disagreement, younger brother Gideon (Russ Tamblyn) says, "I stand with Adam." And Adam says, "OK then ... just don't don't stand so close."
Why is it that sycophants are always spineless? Is there some evolutionary advantage to it? Or is llig wrong (gasp!) in this case, and the sycophants he's fed up with are actually vertebrate?
Its great to see a thread that really stays on track
I love it that Will hates that he's agreeing with Michael about people hating to agree with Michael
What is it with loving agreeing with me?It seems that every time someone agrees with me, they prefix it with loving that it happens. What am I, llig's alter ego?
Out of curiosity I looked at the fiddle world website, and, like Will, I find it appalling. What is more worrying than the general content is the amount of personal information the site requires from anyone who joins - information which is apparently intended to be shared with other social websites (this is the significance of the "ning" in the website address - google "ning" for more info). Security implications are obvious.
Are yiz sayin' I wear a skoit? That's it Harmon, it's you and me in Fiddle World Craicdown. People'll be scrolling down the screen and hyperbridging hither and thither, cranning and articulating their necks to get a good view. Why, I'll grab yer pegs and give them a fine tuning, undo yer bow and before you know it, yer frog will be in yer f hole.
"Bah, Jode, yer a peg dope, a well-grooved nut, and ye'll have yer tailpiece draggin between yer legs when I'm done wid ya."
I love stoppin in her at the mustard board when you lads talk it up!
So I'm going to get lots of hate mail on this one, but I found the other site refreshing. It's non-judgmental and I've met some really good fiddlers through the site that are, as many here profess to be, into the music not just the fiddle. The difference is, there isn't a clique of about 15 people that try to control the site and tend at times to get really tissy with people not in the circle of friends, so to speak. I still find this site helpful and I read the threads, glance at the tunes, etc. But I have to say, it's nice to "converse" with some diverese fiddle players that don't always have their bows up their butts about everything. Not trying to be tissy myself, just my own experience/observation.
LOL, this site hasn't had a clique of 15 since the second month it went public.
That accusation comes up now and again. I suspect that it's based on the mistaken premise that because a handful of people well experienced in this music happen to voice agreement on certain points, we must be acting in concert, "ganging up" on anyone who disagrees.
In fact, as far as I know, having hung around the yella board as long as anyone, everyone posts independently, actually quite isolated from one another.
I suppose I see your point. So, you are recreationally disagreeing with disagreeing with people recreationally? Damn, that's clever. And you use a space bar and the return key.

"Spectre" doesn't begin to cover it.
