appraisals & insurance

Is your instrument insured? How did you go about ascertaining its value? Did you ever have a need to invoke the policy, ie loss, theft or damage?

Just curious....

Re: appraisals & insurance

you can usually get an appraisal from a music shop that repairs that type of instrument.

Re: appraisals & insurance

It depends on the instrument and the circumstances.

Under my old homeowners, I had to purchase a separate rider for my grand piano, and was looking at getting another for one for my button boxes when I realized it might cost 6 grand USD to replace them. The piano policy was $37 per year.

but under my new policy, the carrier said I just needed a written estimate, say from my box vendor and the replacement was under my homeowners

I am not really comfortable with that and don't know if my 'all risks' covers loss on air planes, inebriated pub patrons dumping Guiness in/on my box, or the TSA airport security gorillas dropping it or crushing while they are handling it (our son lost a laptop that way-and TSA would not pay for it.)
