Accordion advice!

Accordion advice!

im sixteen, and have been playing ITM for several years on both the tin whistle and button accordion.
i an currently playing a Garvey Triple A, which i have foung to be of a very high quality for its price and a great beginner instrument.
However I wish to progress to a new accordion, and need al the advice i can get, especially as i cannot really jusify spending much more than £700. Also i live in county Down, and have really struggled finding any shop which allows me to actually get my hands on one as they are not stocked.
I have been told that many Homers at that price have poor reeds made-in-china. Also i have been told that since palo soprani was bought, the famous quality has gone down, Any advice or enlightenment would be much apopreciated.

is mise le meas,
Cian

Re: Accordion advice!

Have you tried O'Neills in Gortin, Omagh, Co Tyrone? He goes by the name Boorinwood now but he does sometimes stock some good quality second hand Paolo's and Hohners just depends on what he's got in at the time.

Re: Accordion advice!

If you are going to buy a hohner, rather than buy new, it would probably be better to get an older one that has been set up by known er, setter-upper (I'm blanking on what the word should be) e.g. Martin Quinn.

Re: Accordion advice!

I've seen postings on the Melodeon.net forum about cheaper boxes - might be worth having a look.

There's also been one on here about the Irish Dancemaster boxes:
