Wondering more how was the atmosphere? Supportive, friendly? Good instruction? I took a class from Julee Glaub at Swannanoa a few years ago and she will be at this camp too. She was wonderful.
It's a very fun atmosphere - it's fairly small camp. All instruction was great - besides fiddle (my main instrument) I took a whistle, and clawhammer banjo class . Great place to try a different instrument or genre of music.
Events at nite - and sessions/jams also.
Camp itself is lovely - I brought a tent with me - but the cabins are quite nice. There is plenty of hot water and bathroom facilities. Food is adequate - don't expect gourmet grub but you won't go hungry . Bring rain gear, warm clothes, insect repellent, beverages of choice ( covered coffee mug).
Here's a link of some photos I took last year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/photojen/sets/72157606762022835/
see you there - I'm coming in from Philadelphia -
If you have a chance you should come in early and hangout in Anchorage and do a day tour or two. Last year I went up to Denali on the train and camped then hung out in Anchorage for a couple of days. There is a trad festival in town prior to the camp.
Sounds like a great idea, but I will be visiting my son in Albuquerque for a few days right before coming to Alaska. There's always next year. How did you find out about the festival? If there's an email list, I can get on it.
