Carrigdhoun (The Lament of the Irish Maiden)

Carrigdhoun (The Lament of the Irish Maiden)

Nice to see that this lovely old air/song was credited in this weeks 'Ireland's Own' magazine to Wings keyboard player 'Denny Lane'. ???
(Quote: This lovely song was composed by Wings keyboard player Denny Lane)
An easy mistake to make perhaps. After all The Wild Geese do have Wings.....!
It was of course written by Denny Lane of Cork and he died in 1895, shortly before the keyboard player Denny Lane was born.. lol.

I suppose the author must have been googling doing the research.

Google is a great tool....and a great source of inadvertant humor if the searches aren't 'idiot-checked' (as I refer to the process here at the Mega-Bank Salt Mine!)

Re: Carrigdhoun (The Lament of the Irish Maiden)

funny enough, the early '70's 'Ireland's Own' mag was my first source of words to songs sent in good faith by readers but i'm glad to see their tradition of getting it wrong is very much alive

there has to be a sizaable, albeit bizaar, archive here of erroneous versions of songs and misinformation, enough to fuel a micro-socialogical post-grad project, albeit off-the-wall

that reminds me Lis....there was one of them 'micro-socialogical' yokes for sale in last months edition. Only one owner as far as I can remember.

Re: Carrigdhoun (The Lament of the Irish Maiden)

'Ireland's Own' is certainly a might institution in this wee country. Can't say I've partaken of it much over the years excepting when you see the odd copy in amongst all the women's mags in the doctor's waiting room. Yes, 'Women's Own' or 'Hello' might be more entertaining but one wouldn't want to be openly observed reading them now, would you? !!
