Went to his first uk tour gig at Liverpool last night---solo performance, great night, a mixture of old favourites and new songs. He mentioned a new CD coming out soon. A living legend in my opinion.
Went to the Crosskeys (S. Wales) gig on Friday night. Andy was in excellent form. No new songs though.......
1st Set
1. Erin Go Bragh
2. The Girl I Left Behind
3. O'Donoghue's
4. The Braes of Moneymore
5. The Close Shave
6. My Heart's Tonight in Ireland
7. Baneasa's Green Glade / Daichevo Horo
8. Viva Zapata
10. Reynardine / Johnny Cuig
2nd Set
1. The Spirit of Mother Jones
2. Oslo
3. Bonny Kellswater
4. Goodbye Monday Blues
5. Empty Handed
6. Never Tire of the Road
7. You Rambling Boys of Pleasure
The venue was the Rugby Club, a barn of a place for folk concerts. It would appear the Arts Council insisted on a larger venue before agreeing to a grant. (The normal venue is an intimate but spacious enough room in a pub up the road). Didn't specify an audience size, just size of venue. Strange. So the crowd was lost in the place. But they were attentive and appreciative. Nothing the organisers could do.
It also had a bar at the back, shared with a "public bar" on the other side, and the barstaff insisted on competing with Andy's PA.
These attitudes will strangle folk music if we're not careful, but Andy's seen it all and put on a cracking show. I swear his voice gets better all the time.
A word for the support act. I didn't catch his name, but he was a 17 year old local lad playing the guitar. Absolutely astounding.

Re: Andy Irvine UK tour
Yep,
I have seen him a good few times here in Ireland over the years, and every time his playing blows me away!
I always thought his solo gigs were better too...
