What a show! I once commented that if it had a Cotter involved it was worth hearing, here is just another example of the wonderful music they have provided for us over the years.
Anyone have a name for the last reel?
"Tunes are Captain Kelly's, I wish I never Saw You and The Shepard's Daughter."
"Actually the second tune isn't an older setting of the Mossy Banks. It's a tune that Micho Russel called "Divide the Cally Fairly." It's an old Clare tune."
This is funny! From the You Tube page:
"FWIW I can't stand Maeve's show-off fiddling and that cheap ugly stuff she does with the bow. When she relaxes she's great but too often she's quite taken with herself."
"Don't worry about youtubers. I think those comments are rather sad."
Its possible, they may be sad. But I thouroughly enjoy supplying what info I have to help other people out. I'm Rickupinoft on Youtube.
As for Maeve Donnelly, I like her playing and that staccato bowing she does. Its really expressive when she does. I don't class that as cheap or ugly myself.
yeah, that harris/donnelly/cotters clip, and the hayes/macnamara clip, are the essence of why i am playing this music.......peter horan is the bees knees as well......
Aren't they just having so much fun! Only comment in the woulda/coulda genre is that it would have been nice to see the pianist face on, as we saw the others. Maybe that was unavoidable for unknown reasons, and it sure didn't detract from the music. Thanks for the clip, well worth the slow dialup download time!

They argue about it on the You Tube page:
"Tunes are Captain Kelly's, I wish I never Saw You and The Shepard's Daughter."
"Actually the second tune isn't an older setting of the Mossy Banks. It's a tune that Micho Russel called "Divide the Cally Fairly." It's an old Clare tune."

Re: My kind of music
Not everyone has to like everything. Personally, I think Maeve Donnelly's great - she's not afraid to have fun.

Re: My kind of music
...the staccato bowing features a lot in the playing of Paddy Fahy (what little I've heard of it), so maybe it's a feature of East Galway fiddling.
